Field Guide - Update

Howdy, folks.

Its been a long time, hasn't it? As some of you know, there's been quite a bit going on around the Morgan household for the past couple of years. My dad and I had taken on the roles of caregivers for my dad's uncle, who had terminal cancer. During that time, any and all projects that I had been working on were put on hold. It was a long, dark, couple of years. On December 9, 2015, the uncle passed away. At 80 years old, he had lived a full life and was at peace with his passing.

A NEW BOOK IS ON THE WAY

A couple of years ago, I made the announcement that I was working on my first ever nonfiction book - Bigfoot: A Guide To The Beasts of the Field. Ever since I first broke the news, it seems that the project was cursed to remain in limbo due to various issues. I'm happy to report that the curse has (hopefully) been broken and the finish line is within sight.

The book is a field guide for those who wish to learn more about Bigfoot research. Its for all ages and has some historical accounts (including one by a future President of the United States) as well as a few that I have investigated personally. One such investigation took me to one of the spookiest places I have ever been in my life! I'm beyond excited about this one and can't wait to see what you guys think. My good friend, and fellow Bigfoot junkie, Eric S. Brown is writing the foreword. There will also be a little surprise tucked away in the back.

In the days leading up to the release, I will be bringing back the "Bigfoot Week" posts and may even try to have some guest bloggers come on board for some of them.

I will also be posting some extras that'll be exclusive to this project. I have one investigation left to do and am planning on doing some videos to go along with all of this. Exciting times are on the horizon!

There is no official release date as of right now, however, I am shooting for sometime in February or March 2016.

BIGFOOT: A GUIDE TO THE BEASTS OF THE FIELD - Synopsis

SOMETHING IS OUT THERE!

It is one of the greatest mysteries that the world has ever known. For centuries, people have reported seeing giant, manlike, creatures roaming through the dense forests. The scientific community refuses to accept the existence of these beings despite the growing amount of evidence.

Within this book you'll learn the basics of Bigfoot research and forensics to help get you started in the field of cryptozoology.

Learn footprint casting, evidence gathering, and the history of these creatures. Also contains actual reports investigated by the author.

Here's a look at the cover art.

That's about all I have for the moment. Keep watch on this page for more in the coming days. See you soon!

Going back to the swamp

Its been a little over a year and a half since the release of my young adult story A Cold Night In Fouke. That story quickly became my most successful effort and has been well received by readers. It peaked at #2 on the best seller list and remained in the top 100 for the better part of a year. I never dreamed that it would be the hit that it was and still is.

The story is loosely based on The Legend of Boggy Creek, a cult classic documentary from the drive-in era. It was more than just a film. The history of The Fouke Monster is a long one and filled with many hair raising encounters that took place in and around the small Arkansas town. I first saw the film when I was about four and was immediately hooked. It has remained my favorite film of all time and introduced me to the world of Sasquatch and Cryptozoology. I wrote A Cold Night In Fouke as a tribute and could not be happier with the reception.

Ever since the release of my story, I've wanted to do a sequel and have been kicking around ideas ever since. I'm happy to announce that the time has come. Today I officially began work on Welcome To Boggy Creek. This story will take place four years later and will tie in to A Cold Night in Fouke but can also be read as a stand alone tale. Fans of Fouke will be getting their wish for a longer story because Welcome To Boggy Creek will be a novella. Keep your eyes on this page for updates. I will also be doing Bigfoot Week again. I hope you're as excited as I am.

The Legend Lives!

BIGFOOT WEEK: Day 5

So, after a delay or two, Bigfoot Week is coming to a close. That means that something is coming up really fast. Yesterday I shipped off A COLD NIGHT IN FOUKE to my editor. This is an experimentation into new areas. What that means is this story is young adult. I've done it before with a free flash story called SKITTER and that worked pretty well. This is also a chance for me to delve into the legends of southern Arkansas - specifically the small town of Fouke that has been featured in movies like THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK and SOUTHERN FRIED BIGFOOT. You can also find a detailed history of the town's encounters with an unknown creature in Lyle Blackburn's awesome book THE BEAST OF BOGGY CREEK. All of this has been one of my ever present interests over the years and obviously it continues to this day just as strong as its ever been.

A COLD NIGHT IN FOUKE is the first in a series of cryptozoology themed shorts. Depending on how things go, it may continue and become a paperback collection. We'll just have to see how it goes from here.

Check out the synopsis below. It won't be long, I promise.

Emmett is a young boy who craves adventure and excitement. He dreams of going hunting with his father through the wild swamps of southern Arkansas. His dreams soon become nightmares as something comes hunting for him.

For years legends of giant creatures have haunted the area around Boggy Creek. Most dismiss the tales as bogeyman myths. For Emmett, the legend is all too real.

BIGFOOT WEEK Day 4

There's been a rise in Bigfoot related films over the past few years. Some of them have been great like Jonas Quastel's 2002 film Sasquatch (originally titled The Untold). Others had potential and blew it like The Lost Coast Tapes and some just flat out sucked (take your pick of any from SyFy)!

In my opinion, one of the best to come along during this time is a very cool documentary called Southern Fried Bigfoot. It features the big boys of the south like The Fort Worth Monster, Fouke Monster, Honey Island Swamp Monster and Skunk Ape. This film is very well done and I will go on record by saying its the best Bigfoot doc since the original Legend of Boggy Creek.

Check out their website for more info.

If you like this film then you can also check out Legend of the Honey Island Swamp Monster. The production value is low and its not the best but it is a nice little documentary to have for collectors. It contains actual footage of a creature filmed by Harlan Ford.

I know I fell behind. More to come soon!

BIGFOOT WEEK Day 3

Eric S. Brown has taken Bigfoot in some brave new territories with his Bigfoot War series. Each installment consistently ups the ante and is nothing short of a full blown, gore soaked spectacle from the opening page to the last. Now we venture even further with Planet Sasquatch and Planet Sasquatch: Retaliation. Brown keeps to his fast paced action with thrilling sci fi and military war machine and kicks it into overdrive! Where can he take this ride next? All I can say is, it'll be one hell of a ride!

BIGFOOT WEEK Day 2

Its been a long day today and as a result, its been rough. But I wanted to give you this before passing out.

The Gulf Coast Bigfoot Research Organization has been around for quite some time. They have a huge database of reports throughout the United States as well as other countries. I love this site and check it once a month minimum to see what's been going on. Give them a look and see if there's anything in your area. If so, I would love to hear about it. Odds are pretty good you can find something close.

They also have some other cool stuff as well as reports of other strange animals and places. They even have a couple of books listed that look pretty good and I'm going to track them down.

If you're a fan of Finding Bigfoot, here's a link to the BFRO as well.

BIGFOOT WEEK Day 1

Sasquatch Field Guide (Folding Pocket Guide):Amazon:Books
So yeah, its no big secret that I'm a Bigfoot fanatic. It started when I was four and there hasn't been any let up since then. Over the years I've met some wonderful, like minded, people and even had an encounter or two that I can't really explain. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. I've also written a few fictional tales and I promise there will be more on the way. One very very soon.

So I figured that it would be fun to dedicate an entire week of blog posts to the big guy! There will be some cool stuff floating around so keep your eyes peeled.

To kick things off, there is this offering from Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum.

This thing is pretty cool and I highly recommend it for those of you who wish to take to the woods and do some research of your own. There's plenty of information and scales to help you along. There's even a ruler on one of the pages to help show scale for photographs. Its heavy duty, laminated and compact for light, easy storage. Grab this and bring it along on your next camping trip. You never know what you'll come across out there.

More coming up tomorrow so keep checking back.
